Ascension Holy Day of Obligation (2024)

Posted: May 7, 2024

Wednesday, May 8 (2024) — The Ascension of the Lord Vigil Mass:

  • Please note: No 7:30 am Daily Mass at St. Aloysius
  • 4:00 pm: St. Aloysius, Springville
  • 7:00 pm: St. Mary @ East Arcade

Thursday, May 9 (2024) — The Ascension of the Lord:

  • 7:30 am: St. Aloysius, Springville
  • 8:00 am: St. Jude, Sardinia
  • 12:00 pm: St. Mary @ Arcade
  • 6:30 pm: St. John the Baptist, West Valley

The Ascension is the event, where Jesus arose into heaven, at the end of his time on earth. Jesus’ time on earth began with his birth. It was interrupted for three days by His death on the Cross. During that time, He descended into the realm of the dead and preached the Gospel to the good people who died before Him. This allowed those good and holy souls–the righteous dead, as we call them–who accepted Christ as their Savior to proceed to heaven. On the third day after his death and burial, Jesus Christ was raised from the dead, an event we call the Resurrection. He spent the next 40 days preaching and preparing His disciples to perform the work of preaching and baptizing all people. At the end of this 40-day period, Jesus ascended into heaven. We call this the Ascension. It is said that by His death and Resurrection, Jesus opened the gates of heaven for all humanity. This is true, and His Ascension demonstrates this to us. It is His proof that those of us who believe in Him in faith and follow Him will also be raised on the last day, and enter into heaven. The Ascension should not be confused with Pentecost, which is celebrated 50 days after Easter. Pentecost commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit on the disciples of Christ, after His Ascension.

WNY Catholic Women’s Conference (April 2024)

Posted: April 18, 2024

The world tells us to keep up, to overburden our lives and schedules, and to rush. To be still, is to surrender. It’s the attitude of the heart to give up control and to let go of our worries and concerns because of God’s infinite love for us. When your soul starts to churn, when you need to take action, when you need to discern, or when you are simply too tired, “Be Still.“

This year’s conference is at St Joseph’s Collegiate Institute, 845 Kenmore Ave in Buffalo on April 27th (2024).

Our 2024 Speakers are Mary Lenaburg and Anne Marie Stroud.

Tickets can be purchased on https://www.catholicwomenofbuffalo.org

Although Tricia, our Business Manager has done these in the past, with the reorganization of our family of parishes administrative positions, it is a best utilization of our time to go through Barb. Catholic Home Mission Appeal (April 2024)

Posted: April 18, 2024

Catholic Home Mission Appeal is April 27 & 28, 2024.

Many of us would be surprised to hear millions of Catholics are annually in need of assistance right here in the United States. Each year the US Conference of Catholic Bishops requests that we conduct a special second collection for the Catholic Home Mission Appeal. With your support yearly, we can continue to provide essential pastoral outreach in home mission dioceses.

This outreach ministry provides the resources to bring the Eucharist, Sacred Scripture and prayer to places outside our church walls, including hospitals and prisons.

Please consider being as generous in this appeal as you can to help strengthen the Church at home.

Your support on April 27/28 (2024) will truly make a difference.
